<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing machine capable of preventing the generation of a paper loss by enabling an ink fountain roller to change in rotational speed accompanying the acceleration of the speed of the machine from an adjustment speed to a business operation speed at the operation start time with the ink density being always maintained within an allowable density range. <P>SOLUTION: The ink fountain roller comprising an ink supply device in the printing machine is divided into a plurality of predetermined divisions, and a plurality of ink supply control characteristics that are preset to cancel out the change in printing density, are prepared corresponding to the area ratios of patterns of a printed matter. The pattern area ratios of the printed matter are calculated for each predetermined division of the ink fountain roller. The ink supply characteristics prepared in correspondence with the pattern area ratios are applied for each calculated pattern area ratio.
