PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a preform rod for a photonic crystal fiber free from the collapse of air holes during the drawing of the preform rod even when drawing the preform rod and the turbulence of the alignment of the air holes and having stabilized characteristics. SOLUTION: In the method for producing the preform rod for the photonic crystal fiber having the air holes arranged around a core as a clad, the air holes are formed by arranging a multiple rod-like member 3 having the outer peripheral part composed of glass 1 and the center part composed of a metal 2 to be tightly close contact around a solid member 4 to become the core to form a bundle 5 for air hole, heating the bundle 5 for air hole to fuse and integrate the glass 1 of the multiple rod-like member 3 and dipping the bundle 5 for air hole into a liquid capable of dissolving the metal to dissolve and remove the metal 2 in the multiple rod-like member 3.
