TUNNEL EXCAVATING METHOD, MOVABLE CROSS-SECTIONAL CUTTER AND MASTER-SLAVE SHIELD MACHINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To excavate and construct a new tunnel having a circular cross section and a deformed cross section without performing open-cut work. SOLUTION: This tunnel excavating method changes a tunnel cross section to a deformed cross section having a shape different from this cross section from a substantially circular cross section or to the substantially circular cross section from its deformed cross section in the middle of excavating and constructing the tunnel by a shield machine 1. Blade-like face plates 23 and 53 freely protruding and retreating in the shield radial direction from peripheral edges 22 and 54 of deformed cutter face plates are arranged on the deformed cutter face plates 9 and 52 formed in deformed cross-sectional shapes. A cutter is formed so as to become a circular cross-sectional shape when projecting its blade-like face plates 23 and 53. A circular cross section is excavated by projecting the blade-like face plates 23 and 53 in a circularly excavated cross section. The blade-like face plates 23 and 53 are stored in the deformed cutter face plates 9 and 52 when excavating the deformed cross section, and excavation is performed by the deformed cutter face plates 9 and 52.
