PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup apparatus which is manufactured so that the optical axis of an image pickup element and the optical axis of a mirror cylinder are easily and certainly matched. SOLUTION: This image pickup apparatus has a flexible substrate 22 provided with an opening 25, an image pickup element 23 larger than the opening 25, and a lens 34 larger than the opening 25 which are incorporated into the apparatus; and is provided with a cylindrical mirror cylinder 24 having an end surface 36 perpendicular to the optical axis. The image pickup element 23 is mounted on the rear surface 28 of one surface of the flexible substrate 22, so that the surface 47 of the image pickup element 23 covers the opening 25, and the end surface 36 of the mirror cylinder 24 is mounted on the surface 32 of the other surface of the flexible substrate 22 so that the mirror cylinder 24 surrounds the opening 25.
