PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable electronic device that is provided with a fingerprint collation sensor without degrading the original operability of the portable electronic device.

SOLUTION: A portable electronic device body is provided with the fingerprint collation sensor including a sensor part with an array of sensors comprising two-dimensionally aligned sensing elements each of which varies in electrostatic capacity depending on the distance between a first sensing surface and a finger on the first sensing surface; an image processing part for generating partial fingerprint images as part of a fingerprint sensed by the array of sensors; a fingerprint collation part for checking any matching parts between the partial fingerprint images created by the image processing part and a prepared fingerprint image; a coincidence storage part for storing the partial fingerprint images determined by the fingerprint collation part to have matching parts; a coincidence synthesizing part for synthesizing the partial fingerprint images stored in the coincidence storage part into one fingerprint image; and a registration collation part with a collation determining part for determining whether the fingerprint image synthesized by the coincidence synthesizing part matches the prepared fingerprint image.
