PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophoretic display device which prevents charged particles from being attracted to surfaces of an electrode, a substrate, etc., and has superior contrast characteristics and display characteristics. SOLUTION: The electrophoretic display device is equipped with a 1st substrate and a 2nd substrate which are arranged opposite each other, insulating liquid provided between the 1st substrate and 2nd substrate, a plurality of charged particles dispersed in the insulating liquid, a 1st electrode which is provided on the 1st substrate corresponding to respective pixels, a 2nd electrode which is provided on the 1st substrate or 2nd substrate corresponding to the respective pixels, a thin-film layer which is provided covering at least a 1st electrode surface on the 1st substrate and made of polyimide resin having an alkyl side chain, and a driving means of applying a voltage to the 1st electrode and 2nd electrode.
