PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively reduce the power consumption of back light sources without spoiling the picture quality of a field sequential liquid crystal display device which performs color display by switching three back light sources corresponding to the primary colors R, G, and B on a time-division basis to turning on them. SOLUTION: A data sequence converting means 101 separates an input image signal 201 into a plane sequential image signal 203 in which data of the respective colors R, G, and B are separated and a control parameter calculating means 104 calculates image data correction parameters 205 for making pixels brighter than those of image feature quantity information 204 that an image feature quantity extracting means 103 extracts from the plane sequential image signal and a brightness control signal 206 for controlling for decreasing the lightness of a back light source group 108. Then an image data correcting means 105 corrects the plane sequential image signal 203 according to the image data correction parameters 205 and a dimming means 107 controls the back light source group 108 according to the brightness control signal 206.
