PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorbent article capable of joining one material or the other material of a mechanical fastener without impairing the elasticity and facilitating the joining process in the manufacturing. SOLUTION: A pants type absorbent article 1 comprises an absorbent body 3 and a retaining member 2 for retaining the absorbent body 3 to a wearer, the retaining member 2 is joined with one material 41 of a loop material and a hook material of the mechanical fastener, the absorbent body 3 is joined with the other material 21 of the loop material and the hook material of the mechanical fastener, and at least, a part of the absorbent body 3 is detachably locked to the retaining member 2 to be retained. At least, one of the one material 41 and the other material 21 is joined with an elastic portion and the joining is made with the elastic portion extended and a predetermined interval X1 apart in the extending direction.
