In hologram recording and hologram recording reproduction using a one-dimensional optical modulator, a one- dimensional optical modulator having a plurality of optical modulation pixels arranged in order is used to modulate a laser beam and record a digital data signal on a hologram recording medium while a part of the optical modulation pixels is used to record a sync signal at least two locations of the hologram recording medium while maintaining a predetermined interval, thereby reducing deterioration of reading reproduction of recording information on the hologram recording medium and lowering of S/N attributed to deformation of the hologram recording medium.
