A cam follower having a substantially cylindrical form with a cam engaging surface 51 to a base of the cylinder and a pushrod engaging surface 53 to the other end, is substantially hollow. A substantially cylindrical form tapers towards the pushrod engaging surface 53 such that the portion 52 of the cam follower bearing the pushrod engaging surface is substantially conicular.
