Stored authoritative copy objects that have been created by signing information objects by respective transfer agents, signed and submitted to a trusted third party repository of information objects, validated by at least testing the integrity of the contents of each signed information object and the validity of the signature of the respective transfer agent, and stamped with a current date, and digital signature and authentication certificate of the third party repository, are handled according to rules established by the owner of the object and in accordance with the steps of: establishing at least one type of authoritative copy object; establishing that some of these types are potential transferable records; enabling a selected user to access some of the types of authoritative copy objects; identifying types of authoritative copy objects that are required to conclude a deal; and accordingly controlling transformation of a selected authoritative copy object into a transferable record.
