In an access control and/or anti-theft system using a portable transponder (1), eg. for an automobile, as a security measure against an unauthorised remote query, the transponder (1) is equipped with a movement sensor (2) and sends back its reply code signal upon receiving a query code signal only if the transponder was moved during a certain time interval prior to the authorisation check.
