The device has a seal joint (5) harrowed in a groove (6) that receives an edge part of a window pane and a groove (7) housed in a rabbet of a door. The seal joint forms a loop conformed to the circumference of the pane. A metallic retention part (9) is fixed on the pane and surrounded by the seal joint. The retention part is immobilized by interlocking in a hole (10) of the rabbet (8) through a flexible tab. An independent claim is also included for a process of installing a window pane on an opening of the body of a motor vehicle.
