PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optically active 3-nitroalkylmalonic acid ester derivative from which an optical activeγ-amino acid and a derivative thereof are easily produced, capable of efficiently producing the ester derivative with excellent optical purity. SOLUTION: This method for producing the optically active 3-nitroalkylmalonic acid ester derivative comprises conducting conjugate addition of a nitro compound having a prescribed structure to an malonic acid ester, wherein an optically active quarternary ammonium salt having a structure of formula is used as a phase transfer catalyst in the presence of an inorganic salt.
