PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of automatically setting a position in the conveyance direction of, for example, continuous paper such as what is called pin-less continuous paper, in which holes for conveyance are not formed, at a desired position. SOLUTION: When the continuous paper with a pre-recorded reference mark is loaded, a conveyance period (set time) pre-stored in a storage part is read (S102), and the conveyance of the continuous paper is started (S104). Next, a sensor detects the reference mark on the continuous paper in conveyance (affirmative judgment at S106), and a timer starts measuring the elapsed time after the detection of this reference mark. Next, when the period measured by the timer has reached the conveyance period (affirmative judgment at S108), the conveyance of the continuous paper is stopped (S110). Thus, in this image forming apparatus, the sensor detects the reference mark recorded on the continuous paper, and based on the result of the detection, the continuous paper is positioned when loaded on the apparatus.
