PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a rear projection type display device much thinner. SOLUTION: A Fresnel lens 30 includes: a lens body 31 in the shape of an almost rectangular flat plate which has a lens section 33 that emits light obtained by adjusting the direction of rays of incident light; and an optical axis P1 disposed so as to pass through a position that is apart from the lens body 31 in the direction X along the short side 31A of the lens body 31 which direction X passes through the center P2 of the lens main body 31.
