PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a completely new luminance correction method which improves image quality of a display device by a method of video signal processing, which considers characteristics of a liquid crystal display panel. SOLUTION: An original gamma curve of the panel is measured, and a target gamma curve is set, and an initial gray level is inputted, and luminance corresponding to the target curve is acquired, and an adjustment gray level for displaying the luminance on the original gamma curve is searched. These steps are repeated to generate a lookup table including a plurality of pairs of proportional arrangements, and a quantity distribution of input gray levels of an image is calculated, and a corresponding proportional arrangement is selected from a dark gray tone lookup table on the basis of magnitudes of a dark gray tone proportion and a bright fray tone proportion, and an adjustment gray level in the proportional arrangement is replaced for the input gray level to output an adjusted gray level, and the intensity of a signal is adjusted to improve image quality, and the intensity of an input signal source is adjusted to obtain relatively excellent image quality.
