<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tapered pole which allows reliable and easy checking of the verticality thereof without individual variations among the operators, and to provide a method of setting the tapered pole. <P>SOLUTION: The tapered pole 4 has a tapered side surface and it is to be vertically set at an installation location. Then an assumption is made of a pair of arbitrary vertical cross sections 15 which intersect an arbitrary horizontal cross section 14 orthogonal to a longitudinal center axis 13 of the tapered pole, at right angles, and intersect each other at right angles at the longitudinal center axis 13 that passes a center point of the horizontal cross section 14. Further, vertical marks 12 intersecting a circumference of the horizontal cross section 14 are drawn on side surface straight lines 17 at which the side surface of the pole 4 intersects the vertical cross sections 15.
