PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device capable of judging butting accurately, a writer of a reversal step for judging butting accurately, and a setting method of a detection step. SOLUTION: A reversal step, i.e. an excitation step being supplied when rotation of a stepper motor 1 is reversed, is stored in an EEPROM 4. Excitation steps excepting the reversal step thus stored constitute a detection step and every time when the detection step is supplied, a decision is made whether rotation of the stepper motor 1 is stopped mechanically through butting of a piece 1d and a stopper 1e or not based on the voltage being induced across exciting coils 1a1 and 1a2 as the stepper motor 1 rotates.
