PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dental caries detecting liquid formed by dissolving a pigment for dyeing a dental caries part of a tooth and enhancing visibility of the caries part in a water-miscible organic solvent or a liquid mixture of the water-miscible organic solvent and water, capable of clearly dyeing only a first decalcified layer comprising an outer layer of a softened dentin which should be erased, and not dyeing at all a second decalcified layer comprising an inner layer which should not be erased. SOLUTION: This dental caries detecting liquid is formed by dissolving the pigment for dyeing the dental caries part of the tooth and enhancing the visibility of the caries part in the water-miscible organic solvent, the water, or the liquid mixture thereof, wherein a compound having one or more hydroxy groups and composed of 11 or more carbon atoms is mixed into the the water-miscible organic solvent and a viscosity of the detecting liquid is controlled to be 300-1500 Cp.
