PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polypeptide which is a novel neurotrophic factor, a neurotrophic agent which contains the polypeptide and is used for neurodegenerative disorders, a diagnostic drug for neurodegenerative disorders and a method for screening a compound having a neurotrophic factor-like action. SOLUTION: The polypeptide having a neurotrophic factor-like action was discovered and named neudesin. The neurotrophic agent containing the polypeptide and a nucleic acid encoding the polypeptide are useful in treatment or diagnosis of neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease.
