PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for applying technique for performing controlled cooling uniformly and at high speed to a difference thickness steel sheet. SOLUTION: When the steel sheet is cooled by passing the difference thickness steel sheet the thickness of which is different in the longitudinal direction through a cooling line on which a plurality of upper and lower cooling nozzles are arranged and an upper dewatering roll and a lower table roll for holding the steel sheet from above and below are arranged on the outlet side of each cooling nozzle and by jetting the cooling water toward the upper and back surfaces of the steel sheet from the upper cooling nozzles and the lower cooling nozzles, the vertical position of the upper dewatering roll which is arranged on the outlet side of the upper cooling nozzles is adjusted corresponding to the thickness of the steel sheet which is passed through the roll.
