PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for electrolytically discoloring markedly colored waste water like a barn waste water efficiently at a cost lower than conventional methods in the past. SOLUTION: This method discolors the markedly colored waste water by charging a DC current by providing three or more electrode plates in an electrolytic cell, serially connecting only electrode plates of both ends to positive and negative electrodes of the DC power source, respectively, while allowing the colored waste water containing a chloride compound and a magnesium compound and/or a calcium compound to flow into the electrolytic cell to perform electrolytic treatment. The number of the electrode plates is preferably 3-300, only the electrode plates of both ends are connected to the DC power source, thus forming all of them in series for performing electrolytic treatment. The waste water is circulated through the electrolytic cell and a waste water treating tank to perform discoloring and separation of solid in the waste water treating tank, and it is possible to have less current amount compared to a parallel system, to make electric wiring thinner.
