PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device which easily and precisely detects irregularity in a bobbin thread according to detection signals output from a means for detecting a snap of a needle thread which is installed in a supply route of the needle thread. SOLUTION: When the phase angle of a principal axis of a sewing machine is about 50°just before a take up lever reaches the highest point and a needle thread tension becomes the maximum, a needle thread detection signal output from a needle thread snap detection mechanism is read (S11), and when the needle thread detection signal is ON and normal (S12: No), an error count value ERC is reset (S21). But, when the needle thread detection signal is OFF and the bobbin thread is irregular (S12: No), and when the error count value ERC is 12 soon after a start of sewing (S17: Yes), or when the error count value ERC is 10 after a long jumping (S18: Yes), or when the error count value ERC is 7 at the time of general sewing (S16: Yes), the embroidery/sewing control is suspended compulsorily (S20).
