The safety device is for a motor vehicle, whereby the rear edge (2) of the bonnet (1) facing the windscreen (5) can be displaced from a neutral position into a raised impact position. The windscreen wiper (10) located between the windscreen and rear edge of the bonnet in the impact position of the rear edge is covered at least partially by a cover flap (4) which is provided with free slots (11) so that the cover flap is guided past the windscreen wiper. Elastomer membranes (12) are located on the free slots.
