PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device of an internal combustion engine which makes the average air-fuel ratio between modulation cycles constant regardless of driving conditions in air-fuel ratio modulation, and optimizes exhaust emission control performance of a catalyst converter.
SOLUTION: A means of changing modulation properties of the exhaust emission control device of the internal combustion engine performs air-fuel ratio control (S14, S20) so that a total inflow rate of a reducing agent detected by a means of detecting the amount of the reducing agent and a total inflow rate of an oxidizing agent detected by a means of detecting the amount of the oxidizing agent agree with each other stoichiometrically (S12, S18) during a modulation cycle period by a means of air-fuel ratio modulation, or during a period which is an integral multiple of the modulation cycle.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
