PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To diagnose a recording/reproducing part in order to estimate the failure cause of an information recording and reproducing device incorporating the recording/reproducing part such as a hard disk drive. SOLUTION: During the operation of a hard disk drive 4, the data of the cumulative values of the number of times of power interruption and the number of times of receiving vibrations during the operation of the hard disk drive 4 are stored in a nonvolatile rewritable storage part 10. A diagnosis circuit 12 uses the data stored in the storage part 10 to diagnose and display the failure possibility of the hard disk drive 4 according to a predetermined program and data.
