PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of magnetic recording medium by which a magnetic recording medium having a magnetic recording layer of a irregular pattern of which the surface is sufficiently flat and recording/reproducing accuracy is good can be manufactured efficiently and surely. SOLUTION: A stage part 21 projected to an opposite direction to a glass substrate 12 is formed along a peripheral edge part of a magnetic recording layer 20 corresponding to a convex part of the irregular pattern, and the stage part 21 is removed by a process (non-magnetic material filling process, flatting process) after magnetic recording layer processing process, in the magnetic recording layer processing process.
