PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a key input device reducing temporal loss of keyboard input, and allowing realization of multifunctionality of the input by simultaneous pressing-down of function keys even by one finger. SOLUTION: A character key Kn present in a keyboard comprises a main key and an auxiliary key. The main key has a main key top Km1 and a main key switch Sm1, and the auxiliary key has an auxiliary key top Km2 and an auxiliary key switch Sm2 adjacent to and independent of the main key. The auxiliary key top is smaller than the main key top. Information can be inputted according to a set input function by single pressing-down of the main key top or the auxiliary key top, or the simultaneous pressing-down of the main key top and the auxiliary key top. Setting of the auxiliary key is changed into a usable state or an unusable state by key input firmware, and is changed into a single use state or a simultaneous use state with the main key.
