This invention relates to a discovery of nucleic acids and proteins expressed in testis and cancer cells, in particular, VSM1 and VSM2, preferably human hVSM1 and hVSM2. This discovery provides methods and compositions for use in diagnosis, treatment, amelioration and/or prevention of cancer and/or reproductive abnormalities. In particular, the invention relates to use of nucleic acids and proteins encoding hVSM1 and/or hVSM2 and antibodies capable of binding said proteins.
