APPARATUS FOR RECOVERY AND DISTILLATION OF FOAMED POLYSTYRENE AND SOLVENT THEREFOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for reducing the volume of foamed polystyrene wastes to facilitate their transportation. SOLUTION: Foamed polystyrene wastes are placed in a tank on a transporting vehicle at the site of production and, after being shredded, dissolved in trichloroethylene, which is a solvent capable of easily dissolving foamed polystyrene in a short time at ordinary temperature, to reduce the volume of the wastes to 1/100 of their initial volume. The resulting solution is transported to a recycling center and then distilled with a distillation apparatus 5 to recover 90% of trichloroethylene and 100% of the foamed polystyrene.
