PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steam generating device embodied in a small size and having a high ability and a steam cooking apparatus fitted with the steam generating device, embodied in a compact construction, and exerting a high operating performance. SOLUTION: Steam generated by the steam generating device 50 is fed to a heating chamber 20 via an outer circulation path 30. The steam generating device 50 is equipped with a pot 51 whose on-plan contour of side wall having a cylindrical shape and constituting a vertical plane has a horizontal section shape flat, thin and long, a steam generating heater 52 installed on the bottom part of the pot 51, and a steam sucking part extending in the direction intersecting the axis of the pot 51 in a part over it. The steam sucking part is formed from a plurality of steam suction ejectors 34 formed in such a way as passing through from one flat side face of the pot 51 to the other flat side face. The steam emitted from the ejectors 34 flows through a duct 35 into a sub-cavity 40 adjoining to a heating chamber 20, heated by a gas temperature raising heater 41 installed in the sub-cavity 40, and fed to the heating chamber 20.
