PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of working an optical fiber preform in which impurities are not stuck on the surface of the optical fiber preform. SOLUTION: In the method of working the optical fiber preform 1 supported in both ends by a holding member and heating with burner flame while rotating, before a drawing process for reducing the diameter of the optical fiber preform to a prescribed diameter, a flame polishing process is carried out.
