The tensioning device for safety belts has a gas generator to which is connected an ignition cable led in from outside. The ignition cable (20) is connected to the gas generator via a contact opening through the movement of the gas generator and piston (16). The gas generator is fluidically connected to the pressure chamber provided behind the piston in the tensioning direction. The ignition cable is connected to two contact pins in communication with the gas generator and reaching radially through the wall of a guide tube (15).
