<p>An acrylic copolymer is produced by simultaneously using a polypropylene glycol compound having a molecular weight of 250-5,000 as an emulsifying assistant during emulsion polymerization of a monomer mixture in the presence of a nonionic and/or cationic surfactant. The monomer mixture contains (a) 30-70 weight% of perfluoroalkyl alkyl (meth)acrylate represented by the general formula: CH2=CRCOOR'Rf (wherein R represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R' represents a straight or branched chain alkylene group having 1-8 carbon atoms; and Rf represents a perfluoroalkyl group having 4-16 carbon atoms), (b) 25-60 weight% of a stearyl (meth)acrylate, (c) 0.1-5 weight% of a (meth)acrylamide and (d) 0.1-5 weight% of an N-methylol (meth)acrylamide. An aqueous dispersion of the thus-produced acrylic copolymer is excellent in storage stability, water repellency and oil repellency.</p> |
