Achieving pairing between a wireless input apparatus (e.g. mouse, keyboard or joystick, 201, Fig. 2) and a wireless receiver (203, Fig. 2), in particular when the user installs and starts the wireless input apparatus the first time. Firstly it is judged whether the wireless input apparatus is being moved or if one of its buttons is being depressed, 101. If it is, the wireless input apparatus transmits an identification code in a data packet having the normal data packet format, to the corresponding wireless receiving apparatus, 103. The wireless receiving apparatus searches for (using frequency hopping) and receives the data packet, 105, and sets the transmitted identification code as its identification code, 107, thus achieving pairing. When the wireless input apparatus is subsequently operated by the user, the normal data packet format (Fig. 5) is again used to transmit the identification code and movement/button data. By using the same data packet format for transmitting the identification code and ordinary data, the need for a special connection button on the wireless input apparatus to achieve the pairing, is obviated. |
