STARTING METHOD OF ENGINE HAVING PAUSABLE VALVE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control engine valve timing during startup of an internal combustion engine.

SOLUTION: Electromechanical valves 52, 54 are controlled so as to reduce the hydrocarbon discharge amount during startup of an internal combustion engine 10. In this method, a suction valve 52 is controlled so as to reduce adjustment with respect to the cylinder ignition advancing amount and the air-fuel ratio over a wide range of operating conditions.
