<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine using a combustion burner for keeping an exhaust gas purifying catalyst in an active temperature range during operating the internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: The exhaust emission control device comprises the exhaust gas purifying catalyst provided on the midway of an exhaust pipe 3 as an exhaust passage for a diesel engine 1 as the internal combustion engine and the combustion burner 5 for heating the catalyst. When the temperature of the catalyst is lower than a preset value, air and fuel are supplied to the combustion burner 5 to establish a catalyst heating condition of heating the catalyst with combustion heat. When the temperature of the catalyst is higher than the preset value, the fuel is only supplied from the combustion burner 5 to control the catalyst to establish a temperature keeping condition. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
