PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrifying device for an image forming apparatus which can smoothen an excessive electrification part due to abnormal discharge caused by the contamination of a contact electrifier, can maintain a stable electrifying performance for a long period of time since the smoothenining performance is not affected by wear of a photoreceptor, and can more reduce an amount of ozone production than heretofore in the case of a negatively electrified photoreceptor. SOLUTION: The electrifying device for electrifying the photoreceptor 1 of the image forming apparatus is composed of: a contact electrification means 2 to which a DC voltage is applied; and a non-contact electrification means 3 which is disposed downstream of the contact electrifying means 2 and has a discharge electrode 3a and a control electrode 3b. The potential Vpr of a charged body after the passage of the contact electrifying means and the applied voltage Vg of the control electrode of the non-contact electrification means satisfies ¾Vpr¾>¾Vg¾.
