PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a left and right-winding direction-switching mechanism in a single axial bearing reel for fishing, easily handled or produced, excellent in durability and lightweight. SOLUTION: This single axial bearing reel is provided by pivoting an inner ring 5a of a rotating type one directional rotary clutch 5 as capable of rotating but not capable of sliding at the base end part of a shaft 2 and reverse-rotating the direction of rotation of the rotating type one directional rotary clutch to cooperate with a braking mechanism installed at the reel main body at one end side or another end side of an outer ring 5b of the rotating type one directional rotary clutch selectively so as to engage the inner ring of the rotating type one directional rotary clutch with the spool by attaching or detaching the spool 4 pivoted as rotatable at the tip end part of the shaft.
