PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a USB storage device having a reading-dedicated storage area wherein previously stored information is not erroneously deleted, and also having a storage area protected from illegal hacking of a computer virus or the like. SOLUTION: In this USB storage device, a storage area of a semiconductor memory is defined in a state that the storage area is divided into at least a first area and a second area. The first area is set as an area wherein only reading of information accessable by a SCSI standard command corresponding to a logic unit number is executable.
