PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the insufficiency of a fixing performance due to kinds of transfer material, to prevent the useless consumption of power, also, a defective image caused by high temperature offset due to overheating, and the contamination of a fixing unit by toner, and to efficiently and satisfactorily fix the image even when the apparatus is made small in size and the operating speed is made high. SOLUTION: After the transfer material P rushes into a fixation nip part, the fixed power is outputted to a heating body (heater) for a prescribed time, and an appropriate power output to be applied on the heating body is determined in accordance with the shift of the temperature fluctuating in the prescribed time, thereafter, the power supply to the heating body is controlled while increasing/decreasing the power output so that the detection temperature by the thermistor may reach a prescribed target temperature. Thus, the heat capacity of each transfer material P is measured at fixing each transfer material P, and the power supply to the transfer material P is controlled with the appropriate power in accordance with the measurement result.
