PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine control device mountable on a vehicle which has one of an automatic transmission device and a manual transmission device without automatic stop during traffic congestion. SOLUTION: When a shift lever is in a drive or neutral position on condition that the vehicle travels at a preset speed or higher, idling is stopped on condition that a preset time (for example, three seconds) elapsed after a brake is turned on and the vehicle speed is zero.
