PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal slab handling device that determines ignition thereof and can extinguish fire without delay. SOLUTION: The metal slab handling device comprises temperature sensors 40a and 40b capable of detecting the temperature of or around grease hoses 38a and 38b for supplying grease to a claw 36 of the metal slab handling device 20, and ultra visions 42a and 42b for detecting an ultraviolet ray coming out of flame. When at least one of the temperature sensors 40a and 40b detects a certain temperature or higher and one or both of the corresponding ultra visions 42a and 42b detect a ultraviolet ray or the like, ignition is determined.
