摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-domain vertical alignment type LCD wherein animation display of high quality can be performed when an OS driving method is adopted. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display has a plurality of pixels each having a first electrode 11, a second electrode 12 facing the first electrode, and a vertical alignment liquid crystal layer 13 placed between the first and second electrodes. The device includes: a beltlike rib 21 which is placed in the first electrode side of the liquid crystal layer and has a first width W1; a beltlike slit 22 which is placed in the second electrode side of the liquid crystal layer and has a second width W2; and a beltlike liquid crystal region which is defined between the rib and slit and has a third width W3, the third width W3 being in a range of 2 to 14 &mu;m. Further, the liquid crystal region includes at least one of four liquid crystal regions A to D which are each 90&deg; different in liquid crystal tilting direction at least when a specified voltage is applied, and satisfies ¾((a+c)-(b+d))/(a+b+c+d)¾<0.25, where (a) is the total area of respective pixels in the liquid crystal region A, (b) the total area in the liquid crystal region B, (c) the total area in the liquid crystal region C, and (d) the total area in the liquid crystal region D. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
