PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium reading apparatus in which image pickup of a recording plane of two times is not required when image pickup of a recording plane of the optical recording medium is performed and arrangement information of a pit train is read. SOLUTION: The optical recording medium reading apparatus 1 is provided with an image pickup part 2 image-picking up a whole recording plane of the optical recording medium, a picture memory 4 storing a image-picked up recording plane as a recording plane picture of one sheet, a track information calculating part 5 calculating a virtual center point being a center of a track of the optical recording medium and an actual track pitch, a virtual spiral generating part 6 making the center of the virtual spiral in which standard virtual spiral for analyzing a picture in order from the most inner periphery of a track having a standard track pitch decided by a kind of the optical recording medium is calculated and it is deformed so as to superpose an actual track pitch coincident with the virtual center point of the recording plane picture and superposing them, and a picture analyzing part 7 obtaining pit arrangement information by performing picture analysis of the recording plane picture in order from the innermost periphery conforming to the virtual spiral.
