PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogen gas detecting material excellent in hydrogen gas detecting sensitivity and hydrogen gas selectivity and suitably used in a fuel cell vehicle or the like, its manufacturing method and a hydrogen gas sensor using the hydrogen gas detecting material. SOLUTION: The hydrogen gas detecting material contains zinc oxide particles and a chlorine conpound present on the surfaces zinc oxide particles.
