PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated cutting tool processable over a long time, even under a cutting condition of becoming the very high temperature in the edge temperature. SOLUTION: This surface-coated cutting tool has a coating layer on a base material. The coating layer has one layer or more of oxide layers including an oxygen atom, formed as a film by using a solid evaporation source. Among these oxide layers, at least one layer is set to 0.3μm or more in surface roughness of Rmax in the reference length when setting the reference length is set to 30μm in a surface on the side separating from the base material. By providing the oxide layer having such a fine recess-projection, cutting resistance with a machinable material is reduced, and separation of a coating film is restrained.
