PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phenolic resin composition for shell molding which is capable of forming a shell mold excellent in flexural strength and peel-back resistance. SOLUTION: The phenolic resin composition for shell molding contains a novolac type phenolic resin and an organic solvent boiling at 150-280°C and dissolving the novolac type phenolic resin. Preferably, the composition contains 0.5-5 pts.wt. of the organic solvent to 100 pts.wt. of the novolac type phenolic resin and the novolac type phenolic resin has a weight-average molecular weight of 2,000-6,000.
