PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sterilize food container trays, bats, lunch boxes, food containers, daily necessaries and medical and nursing care articles, etc., with high sterilization efficiency by using a small-sized xenon flash lamp whose supply power energy per flash pulse is 0.5-20J. SOLUTION: The half-value width of a supply power waveform per flash pulse is set to 10-40μs under the supply energy 0.5-20J per flash pulse, also the number of pulses per second is set to 30-120, the flash pulses are generated, and an object to be sterilized is irradiated with the flash pulses. As in claims 2-4, the object to be sterilized is irradiated with the flash pulses while moving the flash lamp or it is irradiated with the flash pulses while making the flash lamp stand still and moving the object to be sterilized, or it is performed by both.
